Got an email last Thursday from @GetSpectrum saying “Your Internet speed has increased from 400 Mbps to 500 Mbps”. Never seen an increase in speed. Today it’s been very slow and going out completely.

@Ask_Spectrum I did that and got no help! She was very nice but still the price just seems ridiculous for just basic internet. Started at 39.99 jumped to 59.99 now went to a gouging 84.99 all within a couple years.

@GetSpectrum my mom gestured to her that she couldn’t hear. The rep proceeded to cross her arms and stare at my mom while my mom asked for a pen and paper so she could return her equipment. Then a man walks up and my mom assumes he’s there to help her. He gestures for her (cont)

@Ask_Spectrum I'm talking about no DVR functionality streaming Dodgers from SportsNetLA on Roku device. We're not about to order cable service from you when Frontier FIOS is much faster and synchronous.

@Ask_Spectrum Ya whatever your still gouging customers! Prove to me how 84.99 is a fair price for a basic internet connection, especially since you were given taxpayer money to help build your network.

Cortez Spectrum outages — local patterns

Charter Spectrum's Cortez, FL footprint is part of a larger Florida plant built on dense coastal and inland plant across Central and South Florida. The most frequent outage drivers here are tropical storms, lightning, summer heat stress on nodes, and coastal construction cuts. When report volume rises across neighborhoods such as central, the live console usually lights up before Spectrum's own status tools catch every local node. Watch ZIP codes like 34215 for the earliest neighborhood spikes.

How to check Spectrum outages in Cortez

Confirm whether Spectrum is down in Cortez in under 5 minutes.

  1. 1. Check the live Cortez map

Look at the live status on this page. Report volume above the baseline for Cortez means an active outage.

  2. 2. Verify with your ZIP

Enter your ZIP to see localized report volume across Cortez instead of the broader total.

  3. 3. Rule out your equipment

Only reboot your modem (unplug 60 seconds) if the map is quiet. If reports are spiking, the issue is upstream and a reboot won't help.

  4. 4. Report your outage

Submit a report so other Cortez customers can confirm they're not alone.

  5. 5. Request a bill credit

If the outage lasts more than a couple of hours, contact Spectrum with the start time and your service address to request a prorated credit.

Spectrum not working in Cortez? Troubleshoot it in order

Separate a local Cortez Spectrum fault from a problem inside your own home.

  1. 1. No internet at all, modem online light off or blinking

Check the live Cortez status first. If reports are climbing, the issue is Spectrum's plant — a reboot cannot fix it, so log a report and wait for restoration.

  2. 2. Internet is connected but nothing loads

Compare against the map: quiet map in Cortez means power-cycle the modem for 60 seconds and let it re-sync for 2–3 minutes; busy map means the fault is on Spectrum's side.

  3. 3. WiFi works, but only some devices lose service

Router-side issue local to your home, not a network outage. Reboot the router only (not the modem), reconnect on the 5 GHz SSID, then re-test. Flat Cortez reports confirm it is inside your home.

  4. 4. TV or cable box out, internet fine

A video-tier fault scoped to the Cortez headend rather than the data plant. If TV report volume is spiking on its own, no equipment reset is needed.

  5. 5. Service drops repeatedly for a few minutes at a time

Intermittent ingress on plant is common during storms. Log each drop with timestamps from this page, then request a line technician referencing the Cortez report pattern.

  6. 6. Whole street is out and utility power is also down

Grid event — Spectrum amplifiers draw power from the same feeders. Spectrum service in Cortez typically returns shortly after grid power is back. This is usually a local plant issue, not your modem.

The outage information on this page is based on user reports and local service indicators.
